Frank James Krcil was born on a farm west of Dante, on August 26, 1939, the son of Joseph, Sr. and Mary (Konfrst) Krcil. He died Saturday, August 17, 2019 at 7:35 p.m. (time was important to Frank) at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.
When Frank started school he spoke only Czech and continued to speak it throughout his life. He attended school through the eighth grade at Lawrence #4 country school.
Frank served in the US Army from 1956 until his honorable discharge in 1958. He was stationed in Germany and always wanted to go back and visit.
Frank married Linda Reinschmidt on June 17, 1967 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Lake Andes. He lived on the farm he grew up on for 33 years after marriage, milking cows for the majority of those years. Frank and Linda moved off the farm into Avon in 2000. Frank continued to help his son on the farm as much and often as he could. He also worked at CR Industries in Springfield for 14 years until his retirement in June of 2005.
Frank was a devout Catholic and active member of the Assumption Catholic Church in Dante. He served on the Parish Council, CCD Board of Directors, ushered for many years and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Frank will be remembered for so many reasons, but especially for his love of his family and the time he spent with them and his grandkids (at school, games, camping, basically anything they invited him to). He was a kind and gentle man who never complained, he just did it. He loved the farm and being outside, sometimes he would just sit and watch the rain. He had an amazing memory for dates and events. He enjoyed camping with his family, doing puzzles (especially with his grandkids), playing cards, coffee at A-1 and visiting with neighbors and friends.
Thankful for having shared his life are his wife Linda of Avon; three children: Shaye of Rapid City; Sharisee (Christen) Culbert of Parkston and their children, Jaycie, Kellan, Maelie, Breckin, Quayden, Krey and Kyen Culbert; and Greg (Danielle) Krcil of Dante and their children, Frank, Thomas and John Krcil; brothers: Vit (Mildred) Krcil, Joe (Irene) Krcil and Tony (Rita) Krcil, all of Wagner; sister Dorothy Dixon of Wagner; sister-in-law Judy Krcil of Wagner; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Joseph Krcil; twin brother John in infancy; brother Tom; two sisters: Frances (Steve) Walloch and Mary Ann (William) Grills; and brother-in-law Jim Dixon.
