FLOYD REDWING

Floyd Emery Redwing, 75, died Sunday, July 26, 2020 at his residence.

Floyd was born on February 3, 1945, in Wagner, the son of Arthur and Clarice Dorothy (Chinn) Redwing. The second to the youngest of nine children, he grew up in South Dakota along Choteau Creek and attended the nearby country school. Floyd was an enrolled member of the Yankton Sioux Tribe. After receiving his degree in welding from Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City, Iowa, he worked as a welder and mechanic over the years.

Floyd served in the United States Navy from July 17, 1964 until his honorable discharge on September 27, 1969. He served on the aircraft carrier, USS Independence, stationed on the coast of Vietnam.

On June 30, 2001, he married Kitty Joan McDonald near Castana, Iowa.

Floyd’s many gifts to us included a beautiful singing voice, positive attitude, caring heart and an infectious smile. As a faithful servant of the Lord, he shared his gift of music by singing Dakota hymns at family gatherings, wakes and funerals. He was a member and lay reader of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Vermillion. Spending time with family and friends and listening to country music were also joys in his life.

Survivors include his wife, Kitty Redwing of Onawa, Iowa; several stepchildren and step grandchildren; one sister, Delores (Redwing) Jones of Snyder, Nebraska; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Clarice Redwing; two brothers, Robert Redwing and Arthur Kenneth Redwing; and four sisters, Melda Fire Thunder, Eva Dudley, Delphine Mindenhall and Caroline Redwing.
