EVA WEAVER

Eva Ione (Irwin) Weaver entered her eternal home on Friday, January 31, 2020 at the Lake Andes Senior Living Center in Lake Andes. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 4, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., followed by a Rosary/Wake service at 7 p.m., at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, Lake Andes. Her celebration of life and Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, February 5, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, Lake Andes. Interment will be at the St. Mark’s Catholic Cemetery, Lake Andes. Peters (Crosby-Jaeger) Funeral Home in Wagner is in charge of arrangements.

Eva was born on February 4, 1930 in Lawton, Iowa, the daughter of Hazel and Joe Irwin. She had three brothers and a sister and enjoyed a childhood filled with love, laughter and lots of fun. She received her education in Lawton, Iowa and graduated high school in May 1948.

A handsome Navy man caught her eye at a dance in Remsen, Iowa and after courting for two years she and Burton married in Moville, Iowa on June 5, 1948. That would be the beginning of a 70 year marriage and a lifetime of fun and adventure for the two. They found enjoyment in dancing, playing cards, traveling and socializing with family and friends.

Eva worked as a secretary at Iowa Public Service until becoming a stay-at-home mom after son, Dennis, was born. Having five children in seven years; Eva was a busy wife and mother. She maintained a good sense of humor about life’s circumstances and tried to look on the bright side of life. She was known for her practical jokes. Because she was fun loving, relatives liked to visit and stay because there was never a dull moment.

During the children’s school years she was active in PTA and all school activities. She was the best cheerleader at Denny’s games and her daughters’ various activities. She was an avid bowler and belonged to a weekly bowling league for 15 years. She enjoyed tending her flower gardens and found solace watering her flowers.

She was a parishioner of St. Mark’s Catholic Church for 63 years and took an active role in teaching CCD for several years. She served as secretary of White Swan Township for ten years and she and Burton chaired the 1987 Wagon Train representing Charles Mix County

Eva was happiest when surrounded by family and friends. She enjoyed cooking holiday meals, telling a good joke, sitting with friends for a cup of coffee and playing practical jokes on her grandchildren.

Of all her many roles and accomplishments, she will always be remembered as a wife and mother; and all that blossomed as a result of her life.

Eva is survived by son Dennis (Rose) Weaver of Armour; daughters: Diana Wackel of Pickstown, Karen Anderson of Armour, Patty (Jerry) Lihs of Pierre, Marsha (Ted) Honke of Mitchell; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister Ina Baker of Southhaven, Mississippi and numerous nieces and nephews.

Eva is preceded in death by her husband Burton, her parents; three brothers; granddaughter Katie Rikansrud and son-in-law Jerry Anderson.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Alzheimer’s Association of South Dakota.
