BRENDA TJEERDSMA

Brenda Marie (Hines) Tjeerdsma, age 63, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away on Saturday, March 20, 2021, at her home in Avon.

Brenda was born on April 23, 1957 in Miller, to C. Elaine and LaVerne Hines, the fifth of eight children. Her dad passed away and Elaine married Joseph Lingscheit on June 28, 1968. She graduated from Miller High School in 1975 and went on to attend Mitchell Tech’s commercial baking program. Shortly thereafter, she met the love of her life, Stanley Tjeerdsma. They were married on April 2, 1977. As well as being a full-time farm-wife, she worked at various local businesses: C&R Factory, Casey’s General Store, Springfield Academy and was bookkeeper for Stan’s Tree Service. She always enjoyed camping with the “Casey’s Girls” every year.

Brenda will be remembered as a warm and friendly, outgoing woman with a boisterous laugh. She was selfless - putting others before herself and always willing to lend a helping hand.

She particularly loved spending time with family and friends, whether it was going on camping and four-wheeling adventures, or just playing a card game of hand-and-foot (she was quite the card shark). She also enjoyed baking cakes for family and friends and was happy to pass this skill down to some of her grandchildren.

It is without a doubt, her proudest accomplishment was her children and grandchildren. She absolutely adored her grandkids and was never too busy for them. She would spend hours teaching them letters, playing board games and even potty-training them. She was always ready for a sleepover with the whole crew. Truly, she was their biggest fan.

She leaves behind her husband of almost 44 years, Stanley Tjeerdsma; her children: Travis (Hillary) Tjeerdsma of Avon and Kaycie (Dennis) Klimisch of Utica; eight grandchildren: Haleigh, Tyler, Thayne, Tucker and Hudsyn Tjeerdsma, and Jaycee, Blake and Emma Klimisch; siblings: Rodney (Janet) Hines, Bradley Hines, Barbara Hines, Brian (Michelle) Hines and Susan Zeigler; and multitudes of nieces and nephews and their offspring.

Brenda was preceded in death by her mom Elaine on September 1, 2001, dad LaVerne on August 25, 1966, step dad Joe on December 26, 2005, and her brothers Max (Penny) Hines and Rex (Delores) Hines.

Brenda was truly a great woman whose ability to love, sacrifice, provide, support and forgive will forever be lessons to all she knew.

Graveside services were Thursday, March 25, at the Emmanuel Reformed Cemetery, rural Springfield. Public visitation was Wednesday, at Peters Funeral Home in Springfield. Memorials in her honor may be made to the Avon/Dante Pink Ladies Dart League (a nonprofit dedicated to helping local cancer patients): 40779 2093rd St, Tripp, SD 57376.
