For the past year, a new business has been establishing itself in Lake Andes as a brand that builds with integrity and with customer relations at the forefront of its business ideology. That construction business is East River Builders, owned and operated by Matt Lehman. When asked how he came up with the name for the construction business, Matt said that he wanted a simple name to describe the services that the company provides.

This award was established in 1933 and has been given out annually since and is awarded at the international level. In order to be considered for this award, a student must be a high school junior, display academic excellence in science, take a rigor of courses in science, earn excellent scores in either the PSAT Math, SAT Math and or ACT Math/Science, and be nominated by a teacher.
Read moreWagner Community School senior, Carter Smejkal has been competing in the Farm & Agribusiness Management (also known as Ag Business) competition of the FFA Career Development Events (CDE) for the past three years. Throughout this season’s competitions, Carter has exceled in Ag Business, receiving two first places (in Tri-Valley and Lennox) and a third place at the qualifying meet in Parkston. His third-place finish qualified Carter for the State FFA CDE competition. The South Dakota State FFA Convention was held April 3rd through the 5th in Brookings.
Read moreKatie Swatek was named Photographer of the Year at the SYNC conference on March 4th held in Destin, Florida. SYNC is the High School Senior and Youth Sports National Conference. This conference is tailored particularly to portrait professionals, creative entrepreneurs and small business owners. It is known for its educational programs that focus on high school seniors, youth sports, business, sales and marketing. The number of photographers that attend this conference annually is 500 and this year’s photographers spanned the globe and were from the USA, Canada, Europe, Australia, South America and Puerto Rico. For the 2025 image competitions, there were 126 photographers that entered the competition with 1074 submitted images.

Read moreLast Wednesday March 19th, select groups of Andes Central students traveled to the Prairie Reader competition in Armour. Andes Central sent three teams to the reading competition this year. Second grade: Evyn Frederick, Zeke Bruguier, Kashton Hart, Ezra Arrow, Tatem Drappeau, and Ian Long. Third grade: Jeri Ann Bender, Kharis Dion, and Nevaeh Little. Fifth grade: Addisyn Deurmier, Bella Johanneson, Madelyn Ronfeldt, Ella Swanson, Demi Rouse, and Kateline Derry.
