Janice Fay Baker was born March 6, 1952 at Burke to Leonard and Leola (Witt) Hoar and she died April 25, 2024 at her home near Fairfax.

Janice was baptized and confirmed at the Zion Lutheran Church and Graduated in 1970 from Bonesteel High School. She went to Stewarts school of cosmetology. In 1971, Bennie came back for leave from the Army in Texas, they had a speedy wedding and back to Texas they went. They then returned back to Fairfax where they then started their family, raised hogs, cattle and then milked cows. She had a beauty shop, Jans Beauty Shop. She made lifelong friendships that she treasured.

Janices’ love for Jesus was no doubt the most important part of her life. Which she instilled into her children. She was active in Zion Lutheran Church, enjoyed time spent beautifying the church in renovations, painting alongside some pretty great folks. The coffee was always on.

Family was everything to her. Everything revolved around family, births, baptisms, birthdays, confirmations, graduations, weddings, family reunions and sometimes funerals. Losing their son and grandson was a very tough one. Jesus was there the whole time. An angel food cake was always brought to birthdays.

She had a love for the garden, fruits, vegetables, flowers. She grew enough for the county. When friends would stop, they would get greeted with a hot cup of coffee, a big piece of cake, and a bag of garden goodies and maybe a jar of mom’s jam. She enjoyed sewing, she made clothes, crafts, and quilting. She enjoyed sharing all this with her grandkids. She also enjoyed learning new techniques. When grandkids would stay for a few days or weeks at a time, they got in on everything. Probably baking cookies, rope making or sewing or a table game. She enjoyed playing piano and dad played guitar. What a show when they played together.

When she was given the devastating news, she said, “ this is Gods plan and everything will be ok, this is how it’s supposed to be. “ John 3:16 Janice is survived by her husband Benny of 52 years and 10 months; her children Julie (Steve) Kerner of Burke; their children, Mindy (Jerod) Bolling of Clearwater, NE and grandchildren, Emerson, Micah, Lillian; Austin (Cheyanne) Kerner of Burke, grandson, Wyatt; Macie (Wesley) York of Burke, grandson, Waylon, Ava and Mattie Kerner of Burke.
